The Countdown to Barcelona Begins
With my graduation lurking this month, its slowly sinking in that a few days later I will be moving to a completely foreign city, Barcelona.
In a few weeks time I will be interning for an international fashion PR agency in Barcelona for the rest of the year. I don’t think the reality of moving abroad (on my own!) has properly hit me yet, but in preparation for it I have decided to share my Erasmus experience from start to finish.
I have been lucky in the sense that the term ‘abroad’ is a bit of an enigma for me. I was born in England but spent not much of a year there before moving to Montreal where I spent a good 8 years growing up. Before I even had a chance to process what was happening we picked up again and moved to Geneva where I stayed until I graduated from high school in 2013. I love Switzerland but the language was always a barrier for me and knew I wanted to return to my roots for University. 3 years later and I’m getting ready for my graduation.
I wasn’t sure where to go after I graduated, or even if I wanted to go straight into work, and spent a lot of time thinking about my options. My uncertain future always left me feeling quite anxious and with so many possibilities it was hard to settle on an idea. I knew I wanted to travel and see more of the world, but was also quite antsy to get stuck into the fashion industry. Thats when I came across the Erasmus Programme and it encompassed everything I was looking for. Within a few days I had all the documents signed off and I would be working abroad in Barcelona.
The knot in my stomach keeps growing with the realisation that soon I’ll be waking up in a foreign country, alone and disorientated, but excited for the next chapter of my life.
