Hello 2017 + Zaful Review
Who’s ready for a fresh start in 2017?
I find New Years is always an exciting time. The older I get, the more I appreciate change and I look forward to having a fresh start. I don’t necessarily set myself resolutions, but I do like to have several projects to focus on.
It’s hard to think a year ago I was getting ready to submit my 8,000 word dissertation on the evolution and psychology behind the American Vogue covers. I can’t believe how far I have come since then and everything I have achieved. Even approaching my last few months of University I still had no idea where I was going to end up or what my plan was. If I could go back in time, I would definitely tell myself that everything will fall into place so instead of worrying, go out and make the most of your last few months.
I would consider 2016 a pretty decent year for me. I graduated from Falmouth University with a degree in Fashion Photography, moved to a completely foreign city on my own, but most importantly I discovered my love for blogging. I launched this platform last August without really knowing what direction it would take. Over summer, I had the free time to create lots of content and I was publishing up to an editorial a week. Unfortunately once I moved to Barcelona it became a little more difficult. During the first few weeks I was able to regularly update it because of things I had leftover from the summer, but as I ran out of content and life took over, suddenly I hadn’t posted in 2 months.
My internship kept me busy from 9-5 and on the weekends I wanted to be out exploring the beautiful city I was only able to call home for 3 months. I don’t regret abandoning my blog for the short while I was in Barcelona because it meant I was able to fully enjoy myself. I had the most incredible time and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Without boring you all, probably the most valuable lesson I learnt during my experience was to never forget the bigger picture. It can be so easy to get consumed by the world of fashion (or other similar industries) and become distracted by all the wrong things. Whilst I am still fascinated by everything fashion and beauty, I have learnt that there is a whole world of possibilities out there, waiting to be explored. Especially after graduation, it can be so easy to get caught up in the rush of settling down and finding a job, without really taking the time to discover ourselves. I see too many people move to London and get absorbed by this highly competitive industry that has well and truly lost touch with reality.
I started this blog as a personal outlet where I can publish and share content that I am passionate about. There are 0 expectations. But it is now 2017 and I am starting a new chapter of my life. This year I really want to invest my time and energy into my website and use it to help me grow artistically. Whilst I am home for a bit, I can continue to focus and learn on the things I love. I want to get inspired by the Swiss countryside and produce fashion editorials that I am proud of. This year also marks the start of my next European adventure. It’s still very early days but I have high hopes for 2017 and I can’t wait to see what it brings.
I would love to hear what you all have planned for this year, if you have any expectations or predictions let me know!
For those wondering – yes this faux suede long trench coat is from my Christmas Wishlist with Zaful.com! Their online shop has so many gorgeous jackets so it was hard to choose just one, but I’ve been on the hunt for a coat like this for a while. When it arrived in the post I couldn’t help but feature it in the first collection of photos for the year. It is incredibly soft and luxurious, and it’s quite thin so it makes a great layering piece. They have also just launched their Spring 2017 collection so check out their website before everything goes!
